The Sun Hydraulics PVHDKJN (PVHDKJN) is a high-performance, ventable, pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valve designed to maintain a constant reduced pressure at port 1 while offering a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank port 3. This valve is particularly robust for demanding applications due to its main stage orifice being drilled directly into the piston. It features a vent port (port 4) for remote control by pilot or two-way valves. The valve's design ensures that pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, with a maximum allowable pressure of 3000 psi (210 bar). It operates with very low deadband transition between reducing and relieving modes, ensuring stability and low hysteresis across various conditions. The recommended maximum inlet pressure varies by adjustment range: Ranges D, E, N, and Q handle up to a 2000 psi (140 bar) differential; Ranges A, B, and H manage up to 3000 psi (210 bar); while Ranges C and W are tested for up to 5000 psi (350 bar). The PVHDKJN also allows reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2; however, this may close the main spool unless a separate check valve is incorporated into the circuit. The effective setting can be adjusted below nominal by controlling the pressure at vent port 4. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal binding issues due to variations in installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining. This model fits into Cavity T-23A Series 3 with a capacity of up to 40 gpm (160 L/min), operates at pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar), and requires an installation torque of between 150 -160 lbf ft (203 -217 Nm).

Ventable, pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3). The vent port (port 4) can be used as a means for remote control by pilot or 2-way valves.
- These valves have the main stage orifice drilled into the piston rather than a staked-in orifice. This allows the valve to survive physically demanding applications.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Pilot operated valves exhibit very low dead-band transition between reducing and relieving modes.
- Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
- Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
- By controlling the pressure at the vent (port 4), the effective setting of the valve can be controlled below the nominal valve setting.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
